Hillhurst-Sunnyside Community Association 60th Anniversary of Incorporation
August 16, 2008
![]() Jim was pleased to join the Board of Directors, staff and volunteers of the HSSCA in celebrating their 60th Anniversary of Incorporation. The first homesteads appeared in 1880's - the most notable being that of Felix McHugh. In 1883, he established his homestead in Section 21, now known as Hillhurst. The site of his house is now a playground at the corner of 9A Street & Memorial Drive. Ezra Riley acquired the land, and sold it to the city in 1904. He also donated a 20 acre parcel, which is now known as Riley Park . Along with Alderman Druh Farrell, Jim presented a framed picture of Cricket in Riley Park, CIRCA 1920's to Jackolyn Coughlin, President HSSCA. Hillhurst-Sunnyside is one of the most vibrant communities in Calgary Centre-North. For more photos, click here |
